Conference Venue

The fifth WCILCOS International Conference of Institutes and Libraries for Chinese Overseas Studies will be held at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, Sage Bistro, and St. John’s College on UBC Vancouver campus.

Irving K. Barber Learning CentreOpened in April 2008, the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre is a revolutionary and evolutionary facility dedicated to the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic development of people in British Columbia.  It is now the home of2,100,100 volumes of materials, Rare Books and Special Collections Reading Room, the Chung Collection, School of Library, Archival, and Information Studies (SLAIS), Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT). Chapman Learning Commons, Ike’s Café and more.
The information desk of the 5thWCILCOS conference will be located in the foyer and all panel sessions will be held at the Victoria Learning Theatre and other classrooms.


Sage Bistro

Sage Bistro is renowned for its fantastic food and spectacular views of north-shore mountain and ocean. Located next to the famous Rose Garden, the Sage Bistro is just a 5-15 minute walk from IKBLC and campus accommodations. It will be the venue of the opening ceremony of the 5th WCILCOS conference on May 16th.


St. John’s College

St. John’s College is the realization of a dream held by local and international chapters of the alumni associations of the former St. John’s University in Shanghai to revive the spirit of their alma mater and perpetuate the SJU motto: Light and Truth. Located on Lower Mall, St. John’s College is 5-10 minute walk from IKBLC, and it will be the venue of the closing ceremony of the 5th WCILCOS conference on May 18th.
